Harold
J. Gilbert is currently serving as Second VP of the Victor Valley
branch of the NAACP. He is a Chicago native gradating from DuSable
High School, June 1955 in Chicago
with honors. After attending Roosevelt University
for two years he entered the U.S. Air force in 1958. While in the Air Force he rose to the rank of Chief Master Sergeant.
He retired from the Air Force in 1987. After this he was employed as a Logistical Engineer by McDonnell-Douglas Aerospace
developing the Technical Order for the C-17 aircraft.
In February
1999 he retired from this company. Harold has been a part of the Victor
Valley Community as both a military member and civilian since. He is
a long time member and supporter of the NAACP. He was also a founding member of the Hi-Desert Black Heritage Committee (HDBHC).
He conceived and helped in the implementation by HDBHC of their Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Juneteeth Celebrations and
a quarterly breakfast of African American Business that later became the Victor Valley African-American Chamber of Commerce.
He is married to Genevieve (Cooks) Gilbert. They have one son and three granddaughters.
